Anumaanaspadam

A Thrilling experience!

After a long gap Vamsi seems to have struck the chord once again. Though 'Avunu Vallidharu Ishtapaddaru' was hit, it was definitely not Vamsi's best. But his latest thriller 'Anumaanaspadam' has come out as a surprise and keeps audiences on the edges of their seats, especially in the second half. Well-conceived plot with the thrilling elements intermingled appropriately; this film is surely to make an impact on the box office.

Vamsi's thriller after 'Anveshana', is a welcome relief to the audience who are bombarded with regular stuff of killing and cleansing the systems. Though the performances of the artistes is not good, the film carries way with the plot thickening at every step. If only Vamsi could have roped in his earlier team of M.V.Raghu as the cameraman and have better actors, this was sure shot sensation like what it was during the mid-80s with 'Anveshana'. The camera of Vinda is very disappointing and it is time people like Vamsi should stop encouraging this "non-talented technicians".

The story
The film starts off with Dheerappan (cinematic character of Veerappan) getting killed by police. A journalist knows where Dheerappan put up all his wealth in the dense Nityamangalam forests. He dies in a firing and he hands over his diary to his colleague Basu or Bhavaraju Suryanarayan (Aryan Rajesh). Basu hatches a plan to steal the 'treasure'. He recruits a doctor Devika (Hansa Nandini), a guide (Jaya Prakash Reddy), a bomb disposable team (Vanitha Reddy), a cook and a driver. They hire a van and head for Nityamangalam forests. After many hurdles they finally find the treasure. But the unexpected things occur. The team members get killed by one by one. Was Dheerapan really dead or was he alive?

The Analysis
Vamsi is one of the greatest directors Telugu Cinema has produced. Unique editing style, picturisation of songs, and unconventional characters are his forte. This time he has chosen an interesting theme - the aftermath of Veerappan's death. Added to this, Vamsi and Ilayaraja combination has produced us some memorable musical hits. Now, after a long gap they have teamed up for 'Anumaanaspadam'. That it self makes us to go for it. In one word, the duo has created magic again as per as music concerned. Infact, Ilayaraja's music is the core to the film. Without its excellent background score the film falls completely.

'Anumaanaspadam' is a thriller set in a dense forest. And like in true tradition of Hollywood thrillers, its second half puts us on at the edge of the seat. It constantly makes you guessing who the killer is. That is where Vamsi has largely scored in this film. It starts with a very slow and dull way but takes momentum just before the interval and holds the interest till the end. Suspense moments have clicked in a big way thanks to mind-boggling re-recording by maestro Ilayaraja - The Raja of Re-recording.

The film is a not star driven. Aryan Rajesh could have done better, but this could be termed as his best performance till date. Debutant Hamsa Nandini is reasonable. It is Jayaprakash Reddy, Vanitha Reddy, and other little-known actors who steal the limelight.
