Bhajantreelu

'Bhajantreelu' is directed by the much-loved comic actor, M.S.Narayana. His son Savyasachi (Vikram) stars in the movie, along with Sivaji and a host of other comic actors. The story, the humorous situations and the 'logic' of it all is stale and feels like old news.

Plot:
Sivaji and Vikram kidnap a bride from the wedding hall, and demand 10 lakhs from her miserly father (Kota). He refuses to do so, but later sends out her bridegroom Lohit (Venumadhav) and a group called Black Dogs to search for the girl and her kidnappers. The girl, meanwhile, likes her 'harmless' kidnappers and falls in love with Sivaji. Lohit hires two people, Korada Veerudu (Suneel) and Single Gundu Sivanna a.k.a. Pistol Veerudu (Brahmanandam) to search for the trio.

Story, Screenplay and Direction:
M.S.Narayana is a jobless producer in the movie, searching for a script that is very logical. He slaps the unfortunate writers who come to him with a script that he feels lacks logic. For some reason, the producer of this movie doesn't really care about that very same logic.

In the working men's hostel that all these men stay, the watchman's wife shows ample cleavage and wears only half her clothes all the time. Mumait comes in a song suddenly, with no rhyme or reason for the song. The girls, the love stories the two couples have, the final 30 minutes with 'sister-sentiment' is tiring. Kota Srinivasa Rao's character has Rao Gopal Rao's character of 'Muthyala Muggu' as his father. He can talk to him, get possessed by him and he has three men playing 'Bhajantreelu' whenever he mouths something sarcastic (as opposed to his father in that movie, who had the men play the instruments when he praises himself). Get the comedy? No? Oh well…that was a good try all the same.

There are some incidents that do manage to get some laughs out of the viewers. But then we've seen it all before, and the comedy seems forced. Nothing is spontaneous or situational. Suneel and Brahmanandam are good, with funny characters written for them.

Performances:
Sivaji is okay, and shines through because the other lead, Vikram is stiff and raw. Vikram doesn't suit his role, and to put it politely, is below average. Krishna Bhagawan gets to mouth all the double-meaning dialogues. M.S.Narayana as a jobless 'producer', AVS as a tuneless composer and Ali as an eccentric story-telling drunk provide a few laughs. Suneel and Brahmanandam have good timing. The girls go unnoticed, expect when they show some skin.

Music and Dance:
The songs are mediocre. Mumait's guest appearance in a song is just okay.

Last Word
The comedy is forced. In spite of having a host of comic actors and decent performances, the movie fails to impress.
