An Exclusive Interview With Jagapathi Babu

Jagapathi Babu has proved his capabilities in all areas, be it action, emotion or entertainment. He has given every role he essayed a certain freshness of approach that has been widely appreciated by the audience. He speaks about his forthcoming film Athade Oka Sainyam.

What is Athade Oka Sainyam all about?
It is a little difficult to explain. It is a misconception that it is yet another action film, because in reality it is an emotional subject with a little action. I don’t want to say more except that every family will relate to the theme.

According to the director S V Krishna Reddy it is a role with a big difference; something you haven’t attempted before. How is this one different?
The director is right. I didn’t have to really ‘act’ in this film. He just let me be and the outcome looks so natural as if the happenings are a part of daily life. In this film I never felt as if I ‘acted’ out a part. That is the difference.
It is an entertainer with a lot of comedy but none featuring me. My role is that of a serious character.

How about the romance?
Compared to my earlier films the romance is very little, because the character doesn’t demand it. Romance would not have been in keeping with character I play.

  How do you view the industry these days?
The industry is going through a low phase with so many films flopping. But this was happening earlier too. It is a cycle of ups and downs. Right now we are down.

  Who is responsible for this state of affairs?
Definitely not the audience. The industry itself is at fault. The public always appreciates well-made films and it is up to the industry to deliver.

  How do you see yourself in the future?
It will be bright if I keep updating myself according to the demand. In the coming year I will concentrate on doing roles which fully satisfy the actor in me. I am not averse to doing commercial films and if it is a big budget one I will definitely do it provided it is quality stuff.
