Routine, yet different!
After Narasimhanaidu, Balakrishna seems to have again tasted the flavour of success with his latest film Maharadhi. The film which was delayed to a great extent finally saw the light of the day with its release. A family entertainer from Balakrishna, surprised. Yes, this film doesn't have factionism or glorifies killing of people. It is a nice simple story with focus on relationships between humans and their aftereffects! Indeed this film comes as a fresh breeze to Telugu films which are flooded with bloodshed and dress stripping heroines.
The film is Balakrishna show all the way! We see him in four shades in this film not four roles. And he has put in lots of energy and effort to convince you in four different shades. The director has to be congratulated for having taken such a story in the time of mass entertainers. The film at many times reminds us of Chandramukhi (the Rajani film which was directed by P Vasu), maybe this film too will catch up with audience like Chandramukhi did! Jayapradha, who is doing a Telugu film after a long gap, plays the role of an arrogant women character, albeit lacks the arrogance.
The story
The hero in the start of the film appears in two shades – Bala, the music teacher and Krishna, the dance teacher. And works for rival colleges named Kalyani Music College run by Naresh and Dance College run by Jayapradha. These two are rivals and they hate each other. Balakrishna acts as Bala and Krishna to teach a lesson to Jayapradha who is an arrogant rich woman. For this he makes their daughter – Meera Jasmine – fall in love with him and that she would die if they don't allow her to marry him. ASfter having understood their daughter's love to Balakrishna, they come to beg him to marry their daughter. And it is during this time he reveals that Bala and Krishna are same and he acted as two persons for: flashback.
Balakrishna is a mass guy, drunkard but helping in nature to all the downtrodden, lives in Andhra colony in Visakhapatnam. His mother is Kovai Sarala. Next to this colony there is a ladies hostel and to that place comes Sneha, the first daughter of Naresh-Jayapradha couple. She comes in search of Balayya, who is an excellent singer and dancer, to start a music and dance college with him.
Meanwhile Jayapradha comes to know of her daughter's love affair and flies from London to India. She calls Kovai Sarala and insults her, and Kovai Sarala dies of an accident immediately. Knowing that Balayya's mother died because of her mother, Sneha commits suicide and dies. As a revenge and to teach a lesson to Jayapradha he comes to Nainital and finally ends up with Meera Jasmine.
The Analysis
Balakrishna steels the show. He portraying different varieties of the same character is very interesting and well performed. He has not over done and in fact his acting is quiet right for the film. Jayapradha's role was not suitable for her. The arrogance is lacking, since Jayapradha is not known for arrogant look, but for sweet and beautiful looks. Sneha and Meera Jasmine have good roles in the film. Navaneet Kaur gets an insipid role. And also Pradeep Rawat, who is fondly bashed up by our hero.
Though a simple story, Vasu has taken clever steps to portray the hero based on his image, while not going with the wind of the Telugu films today. Music of Guru Kiran is good and has a lot of role to play in the film. The song render by Yesudas is a highlight, and the other songs are also good enough for the film.
