‘Note Book’ is yet another teenage love story that ends in a tragedy. You have seen from ‘Maro Charitra’ to ‘Abaddam’, the same is yet again brought to you with a rural backdrop by Chandu (director of earlier teenage story called ‘10th Class’). But this film will not stand out like many love stories which have come earlier for the sheer reason that the presentation is routine and boring at many times and also because his main artistes fail to stand up to his story, though the girl Gayatri seems to have some keen in acting.
Now will the film succeed is a difficult question to answer… will the teenagers of today ready to watch tragedies? If so ‘Abaddam’ would have been a hit (which is far better than this film). First half of the film runs with comedy and love track while sentiment rules in second half. Maybe Chandu should be more careful with filming a story that is of a beaten track nature… he should take care not have the same routine scenes and characters. Anyway, an effort that might not click!
The story
The film revolves around teenagers who are just 15 and 16. About those two who have finsihed intermediate and are getting into degree. Both the hero and heroine are new comers and the director tries to run the show with these two, which turns out to be a dam squib because both look very amateurish. Nandini played by Gayatri is the daughter of Ramapuram Zamindar Ramachandra Rao. Raju played Rajiv is the poor guy, who is the son of Ramachandra Rao's wife's childhood friend played by Surekha Vani.
Raju's mother dies in a fire accident and from then he grows up in the shelter of Nandini's family. Both Nandini and Raju grow as good friends from childhood. As they grow older, love sprouts between them. Nandini's father cannot accept his daughter loving a poor guy. He tries to get her married for another rich man's son. Nandini ends up her life. Raju also ends up his life.
The Analysis
Rajiv, son of music director is debuting, as hero in this film and falls flat right from the first frame. He is not talented and if learns to act and give expressions maybe he will get some chances, otherwise it would be very difficult for this youngster… Maybe he is looking for career as a musician and not as an actor. His heroine, who is also acting for the first, is a Telugu girl. Looks good and is much better than her hero. She is showing some promises to perform, but has to put in lots of effort if she is serious about her career. All the other actors too are new comers, and the hero’s friends seem to have done better!
Though the music is not new to your ears, the music director has done his part of copying old and Tamil tunes sincerely for which we have to appreciate him… otherwise nothing. But the climax song is the best one and stands out in particular. Except for cameraman Jayaram, no one is identified in the film because they have not contributed anything to the film. Chandu has taken a old story and has canned in a very old fashion, which leaves us with the question that is the film for today’s youth? | |
