'Samba' bought back NTR on the top slot again. With the failure of 'Naga' and 'Andhrawala' NTR was awaiting a good film to regain his top position. Director Vinayak made the audiences spellbound once again with his extraordinary skill in penning the screenplay. Though there was excessive violence in the name of factionalism, the film with Rayalaseema's faction feuds in the backdrop reached well to the audiences. It was quite appreciable that Vinayak chose right persons for the right characters for the script provided by debutant GS Rao. Dialogues by Kona Venkat are power packed.

Story:Dharmaiah Naidu (Vijayakumar) is a landlord of Seema Durgam but he is illiterate. His wife suffers labour pains for her second delivery. Dharmaiah Naidu, being an illiterate does not know how to call an ambulance or the doctor, though they had a telephone at home. So he takes his wife in a tractor-trailer to the hospital. She dies after giving birth to a baby boy. She tells Dharmaiah the importance of education and asks him to propagate literacy, before her death. In order to fulfill her wish, Dharmaiah decides to utilise the money earned from a granite quarry for the benefit of the village by setting up a school. Dharmaiah had a daughter Janaki (Sitara) and a son Sambasiva Naidu (NT Ramarao). He gets Janaki married to another landlord Pasupati Naidu's (Prakashraj) brother (Brahmaji) and gives his entire mango grove as dowry. Samba has a sister-in-law called Nandini (Bhoomika), who pursues MBBS course. Both Samba and Nandini love each other. On learning that Dharmaiah is going to spend the entire money from the granite quarry for education, Pasupati Naidu insists on Janaki to give back the mango grove to her father and get the quarry in return. When she refuses, he instigates, one of his brothers, other than her husband to rape her. She, somehow, escapes and reaches her father. Dharmaiah, who understood the situation, goes to Pasupati Naidu and accepts to give the quarry to them. But, by the time, he returns, Janaki commits suicide. She writes a letter about her ordeal at her in-law's place, but throws it down, as it would trigger anger in Samba. But, after sometime, the letter surfaces and Samba chops two of Pasupati Naidu brothers' heads.

Samba becomes a top faction leader in the village. In order to get back the quarry, Pasupati Naidu decides to eliminate the entire family. So, he hatches a plan and keeps Samba out of the house and tells one of his brothers to kill him there. As per the plan, a woman comes to Samba and pleads him to send Nandini, as her daughter was suffering from labour pains. So Samba takes Nandini to that place. There Nandini gets killed and by the time Samba returns home, Pasupati Naidu kills the entire family of Dharmaiah Naidu. Samba decides to take revenge on Pasupati Naidu, but could not find him. SP Mohandas (Ahuti Prasad) tells the higher officials to send both Samba and Pasupati Naidu to different places for one complete year in order to stop the faction violence and bloodshed. The police get the court order and tell both of them to leave the State. Respecting the court order, Samba goes to Kanchipuram, while Pasupati Naidu goes to Amritsir. Samba gets shelter with Ramanatham (Malladi Raghava), a saree manufacturer. There Sandhya (Genelia), daughter of SP Mohandas, happens to see Samba and falls in love with him. She comes to know about Samba through her friend Nandini. After completing the one-year term, Samba returns to Seema Durgam, but Pasupati Naidu way lays him. However, Samba survives the attempt. Unfazed by the happenings, Pasupati Naidu again plans to kill Samba with landmines. But Samba successfully reverses his plans and kills Pasupati Naidu.
Music: Music by Manisharma has a good mass appeal.
Performance: NTR gave an extraordinary performance in emotional scenes and his fights and factional violence will definitely attract the masses. His dances are also good. Bhoomika gets a girl next to the door kind of character, while Genelia got the opportunity to play the glamour doll. Prakashraj, Vijaykumar and others are on their routine performance. While Mansur Ali Khan played the role of McDowell Mani, a villain in Kanchi, with Hemanth Ravan as his brother. Comedy by Venumadhav in the first half, and Krishna Bhagawan in the flashback and second half is good.
