Introduction: 'Tulasi' comes from Boyapati Seenu who directed 'Madhyanam Hathya' and 'Bhadra' films. He is known for his technical finesse and we are expecting a different flick from him this time with Venkatesh. Venkatesh on the other hand is on a success streak with 'Lakshmi' (2006) and 'Adavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule' (2007). As he mentioned in the interviews, it will have a faction backdrop and let's see how it performs.
Story: Tulasi Ram (Venki) is an architect and a son of ZP Chairman Dasaratha Ramayya (Vijay Kumar). He goes for a foreign trip and meets Vasundara (Nayanatara) there. Vasundara lives with her brother (Sivaji) and comes for a having fashion design profession. Tulasi and Vasundara likes each other and gets married to each other. Vasundara gets seperated from Tulasi after knowing his faction/violence background and loosing her brother in some conflicts. How Tulasi gets back to her and their son forms rest of the story.
Performances: Victory Venkatesh once again succeeds in displaying different shades of his character. He is extremely good in the sentiment episodes with his wife and kid. He has shown his ease while doing the comedy and especially in the episode with Jhansi. That episode stands out in the film. Venkatesh also excelled in the action episodes and love scenes with NayanaTara. The way he portrays the anguish in the flash back is pretty good.
Nayanatara is good as Venki's wife. She looks glamorous in the songs with her usual dance movements. She got a good role after a long time. Ramya Krishna has played a guest role as Tulasi's friend/doctor. Sivaji also appeared for short span of time but in an important role of Nayanatara's brother. Jhansi has played the role of "Kokapeta Aunty" and she succeeded in giving an amazing performance. She makes the theatre go into splits with her Telangana diction being a realtor's wife.
Athulit (the child actor) has given an appreciable performance in the role of Venkatesh's son. He looks very cute and innocent. Raghubabu plays the common role of Villian's assistant and is ok in that. Ali tried to do slight comedy is not that effective in the end. And, when it comes to villian roles, it's very hard to list out them as there were as many as 8 villians in the flick. Subbaraju and Asish Vidyardhi are the known faces.
Technical: Boyapati Seenu has proved with 'Bhadra' that he is strong at Action episodes and emotional sequences. The film gives a feeling that the director has prepared the script around his strengths and he successfully dealt with them in the end. The film has a good mix of Action, Romance and entertainment and the narration by the director hardly bores us. Though there's nothing new in this 'Tulasi' movie, it's completely woven around the crowd pulling elements of Action and sentiment.
All other technical aspects like editing, choreography, dialogues, cinematography by Bala Murugan are upto standards. Music by Devi Sri might catch up after the film's release as the songs were picturized well. "Mia Mia" and "Vennelintha Vedigaa" stand out. Re-recording work by Devi Sri deserves a mention and is very good.
Highlights: Family drama of conflict between husband and wife, sentiment in child's episodes, greatly picturized action sequences, Venkatesh's neat performance with some great comic timing works out in favor of 'Tulasi' film. | |
