'Vasantham' is a Telugu debut by Tamil director Vikraman. It is a remake of his Tamil movie Priyamana Tholi. Though the story has nothing new to offer, mere presence of Venkatesh makes it worth watching. The movie is all about friendship. Screenplay and direction by Vikraman is good. Music by S.A.Rajkumar is melodious. Lyrics are good to listen.

Coming to story, Ashok (Venkatesh) and Julee (Kalyani) are childhood buddies. Ashok becomes a good cricket player and plays several Ranji trophy matches. His only wish is to join the Indian cricket team. After the death of Julee's father Ashok brings Julee to his house. Ashok's parents like julee and they propose Julee to Ashok. They refuse the proposal as they want to remain as good friends. Once Ashok happens to see Nandini (Arthi Agarwal) and falls in love with her. After a few romantic scenes they get married. Later Ashok almost gets selected to the Indian team. Meanwhile Julee and Michel fall in love. Michael (Akash) is his rival who also longs to join Indian cricket team.

Ashok and Nandini visit Michael's parents and request them to accept Julee as their daughter in law. Michael's father puts a condition that Ashok should give up his place in the Indian cricket team, which will help Michael to join the team and also tells Ashok to stay away from Julee. Ashok accepts the condition and tries to distance himself from Julee. Unable to stay in the same city, without meeting and speaking with Julee, Ashok decides to leave for Mumbai along with his wife Nandini. The same evening, the Lions Club felicitates Michael on his selection to the Indian team. In the felicitation meeting, Michael declares that it was not his achievement, but the sacrifice of Ashok for the sake of friendship. He lauds the friendship between Julee and Ashok and then Julee realizes why Ashok behaved in an indifferent manner with her. She goes to the railway station and stops Ashok and Nandini from leaving the city. The film ends on a happy note with Michael accepting to marry Julee and Ashok joins the Indian cricket team.

The movie has all the ingredients in right proportions. It has sentiment, romance, comedy, action and above all it has cricket too! The character is tailor made to Venkatesh. Akash gave a good performance especially in the climax. Aarthi Agarwal looks too plump. Kalyani as Julee did a commendable job. Every one did justice to their roles. To sum up 'Vasantham' is a good family entertainer.
