Yogi

Violent action, all for mother!

Violence, violence and violence! This is the result of Vinayak's latest film – Yogi. Overdose of violence and glorifying it is the most common element across all his films, but this one comes with very thin story line and hits straight at your face. For lots of people this film is a violent shock this Shankranthi! Looking back we wonder is it the same Vinayak who had given us Tagore, Dil and Aadhi who has churned out this violent non- entertainer.

Yogi is a remake of Kanada film – Jogi and this one is sure to be a dud at the box office since the story and the chracterisation of few important people is totally lacking. We have Vinayak working with his typical camera angles to establish the hero, the villainy being glorified, editing style, etc but this time around Vinayak seem not have given a thought about the story line.

The Story
Eshwar Prasad, played by Prabhas, leaves with his parents in a village. As usual he is very naughty boy in village and his mother - Shantamma played by Sharada – supports him for all his deeds. Eshwar who wants to do something for his mother, decides to go to Hyderabad to make money and buy golden bangles for his mother. After entering city, as usual the hero is dragged into the dirty world of city rowdies.

He lands in a mess when one of the rowdies insults him and his mother. In the fit of rage he kills him from then he is forced to live like that meanwhile his mother too comes in search of her son to Hyderabad. There the story takes different diversions and finally we need to see if the son and mother unite.

The story told in typical Vinayak style has many other characters that come and go like Nayanatara, Rajan P Dev, Venu Madhav, Suneel, Ali, etc. None of these have any role to play in the film. Nayanatara is a journalism student and helps Yogi's mother in the city. This apart she used to unveil the story and dance to the tunes of Ramana Gogula.

The Analysis
With over dosage of violence and blood, the film falls flat and unfortunately the story is nothing new. Right from the scene one till the end the film is flooded with violence and blood, what makes Vinayak go ga ga over this bloodshed? Even the sentiment of son and mother has failed in this film. Sharada looks very old and her acting abilities are slowly fading out. The dance between son-mother looks very irritating.

Prabhas looks muscular and his mannerisms in the film are typically funny. He should take care of his dialogue delivery. Sharada's performance was ok and not good since she has lost the yesteryears charm. Nayanatara has no role, so nothing can be told of her except that she has lost lots of extra flesh in her body and looks much better.

The comedy of Venu Madhav, Ali and Sunil doesn't appeal. After lots of insignificant roles in recent movies, Subba Raju has got a full-length role in this film; in fact he is the all-important villain in the film. Maybe he should understand this and concentrate to become the real Telugu villain.

The stunt master Shiva had to do lots of work on the threads and breaking of too many glass panes. Music – there are two music directors for this film – of the songs are ok. Guru Kiran scores the background music, he was the music director for Jogi in Kanada stands out with its loudness and even the sentiment music is very loud.

Yogi, stay away from this violent sentimental stuff.
